CPD Meeting on Questioning

Updated: May 2, 2019

There was a CPD meeting with all staff this evening on Questioning. It was inspiring to see that it was 4 NQTs that gave the talk and that their ideas are valued as much as teachers in the school with more experience. They had very interesting ideas and I learned a lot from it. They spoke about things I have learned in college but some other teachers had not heard of or perhaps forgotten.

They spoke about activities for questioning:

Coloured lollipop sticks with learners names - each colour represents a different band (1, 2, 3 & 4) so you can adjust your questions appropriately

Jenga with different questions on each block

Kahoot (online quiz)

Snowball (throwing a scrunched ball with different questions)

They also spoke about the importance of wait time for an answer, using higher order and lower order questioning, Bloom's taxonomy of learning processes, no hands up technique to encourage learners to take risks

Bloom's Taxonomy
